Art 1: Black and White All Over :Self Portraits

 

In this unit students were introduced to painting. Students got to know different brush types, how to mix black and white paint to make many values, and how to load brushes. After several smaller practice paintings, students created a self portrait.

 

There are a few different versions we've gone through over the years some involving text, some not. When text is involved students are asked to write about their biggest fear in life and then get to decide how much to let it show, or to cover.
